Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 10, 2026 · Effective date: May 10, 2026

In plain English

Shia Salaat does not know who you are, does not ask you to log in, and does not sell your information to anyone. The only data we collect is anonymous usage analytics (which buttons you tap, which city you select) to help us improve the app. Your location is used once, at first launch, only to suggest the nearest city; it is never stored or sent anywhere. That is it.

1. Who we are

Shia Salaat: Prayer Times is developed and operated by Muhammad Rashid, an individual Apple Developer and sole proprietor based in Canada. You can reach us at hello@shiasalaat.com.

2. What information we collect

a. Anonymous analytics

The app and website use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to collect anonymous usage data. This includes:

  • Which screens or pages you view (page views)
  • Which city you select
  • Which buttons or features you tap (button clicks, audio plays)
  • General app session information (session duration, app version, device type)

This data is aggregated and anonymous. It cannot be used to identify you personally. No name, email address, phone number, or account is ever attached to these events.

b. Nothing else

We do not collect:

  • Your name or any personal identifier
  • Your email address
  • Your phone number
  • Your precise or coarse location (beyond the one-time nearest-city detection described below)
  • Contacts, photos, microphone, camera, or any other device data
  • Payment information (there are no purchases)
  • Health or biometric data

3. Location data

When you open Shia Salaat for the first time, the app may ask for permission to access your approximate location. If you grant this permission, your device's location is used once, on-device only, to determine which of the 17 supported cities is nearest to you. This pre-selects your city automatically.

Your location coordinates are never sent to our servers, never stored in the app, and never shared with any third party. After the city is selected, the app no longer uses location data unless you explicitly trigger it again.

You can decline the location permission at any time. The app is fully functional without it; you simply select your city manually.

4. Notifications

Prayer-time notifications are scheduled locally on your device. The app calculates notification times from the prayer data bundled within the app (or fetched from shiasalaat.com) and registers them with your device's notification system.

We do not operate a push notification server. No notification is sent to you from our servers. All scheduling happens entirely on your device. Notifications require your explicit permission, which you can grant or revoke at any time in your device settings.

5. The website (shiasalaat.com)

The Shia Salaat website uses GA4 and standard browser cookies associated with it. These cookies help us understand aggregate traffic (page views, city downloads) and do not identify you personally. You can opt out of GA4 tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

The mobile app uses Firebase Analytics (Google's SDK equivalent of GA4 for mobile), which does not use browser cookies.

6. How we use the information

We use anonymous analytics data only to:

  • Understand which features are used most
  • Identify bugs or broken experiences
  • Prioritize future improvements and city additions

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than improving the app.

7. Data sharing

The only third party we share data with is Google (for GA4 and Firebase Analytics). Google's use of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy.

We do not share data with advertisers, ad networks, data brokers, or any other third parties.

8. Children

Shia Salaat is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children, and the app contains no advertising, no age-restricted content, and no in-app purchases. Our anonymous analytics do not identify individual users or their age.

9. Data retention

Anonymous analytics data is retained by Google for the period set in your GA4 property settings (typically 14 months for event data). We do not store any user data on our own servers beyond what is described above.

10. Your rights

Because we do not collect personally identifiable information, there is no personal profile to access, correct, or export.

If you wish to limit analytics collection:

  • On iOS: Go to Settings, Privacy, Tracking, and disable tracking for Shia Salaat. You can also enable "Limit Ad Tracking" in your device settings.
  • On Android: Go to Settings, Google, Ads, and opt out of ads personalization. You can also reset your advertising ID.
  • GA4 opt-out (website): Install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
  • Uninstalling the app: Removes all locally stored data (your city preference, notification schedule, and any cached prayer data) from your device. Analytics data previously sent to Google remains subject to Google's retention policies.

11. Security

All data transmitted between the app and shiasalaat.com is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. Firebase Analytics data is transmitted using Google's encrypted infrastructure.

12. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. We will not make changes that meaningfully reduce your privacy protections without providing notice.
